At the end of May, we had the chance to visit this amazing tourist attraction. West Midlands Safari Park is a full family fun filled day out. We had such a great day out here, of course it helped that the weather was nice too! But seriously, from the Safari park to everything else- this was one of the best days out that we have been on as a family and the best news is, we can return this summer with a free return ticket- which is available for 6 months after your first trip. So, what's all the fuss about?

As we have 2 small boys and I myself have a small bladder, we pulled in and used the toilets before we embarked on the safari park. Thank goodness we did as the safari driving part took us almost 2 and a half hours. We were given a guide, which we paid £5 for, although the guide didn’t match up to the order in which we saw the animals. Still, it was fascinating to read all of the facts about the animals. Naturally on a hot, sunny Saturday, we knew the safari park would be busy and boy, it was as we spent most of our time queuing and I’m not entirely sure if it was because of the weather, but we were in a constant queue with both lanes full. The animals maybe weren’t too happy with the heat or the business either as many were hidden away, especially in the more dangerous animals part. Another downside was that we spent ages queuing getting ready to feed the giraffes and as we got to that bit the safari staff had moved them to a previous section we had already gone through so we didn’t get to interact with any giraffes.
Towards the end, my boys were rather fed up and in desperate need to run about and be free. Afterwards, we decided to have a picnic on the grass by the car park. My kids were so eager to continue exploring, especially with this next part being on foot.
The rest of the safari park was amazing. We saw penguins, watched an impressive and cute sea lion show, went to view some reptiles and went to watch the hippos in the lake and walk through the lemur woods and see the meerkats. There were both bat and bird houses you could walk through but my children and I aren’t the biggest fans of having things flying over our heads. There were plenty of gift shops- I can’t even count how many we passed and each had their own unique gifts that were being sold. There was a Boj (CBeebies) Park, plenty of eating and toilet facilities. Also, if you have children that are thrill seekers- there are theme park rides but the wrist bands for this have to be brought separately.

The highlight of the trip has to be the ice age and dinosaur sections though. These were huge! After purposely travelling 3 hours for my youngest son's birthday back in March to a dinosaur land, I was shocked to see that the safari park had a bigger section of dinosaurs and better quality the the previous park had- Our Review of Gullivers Dinosaur Land. The ice age and dinosaur sections were separate but both were equally impressive. You could even do some dinosaur digging for fossils in a sandpit with the dinosaurs and there were places where you could take some selfies- sign posted as selfie points. I can not get over how humongous the dinos etc were. They were massive, impressive, very well put together and informative. I really can not fault the displays.
For that reason, and obviously that it was a brilliant family day out, we would highly recommend a trip to the West Midlands Safari park. We will be returning this summer with our free visit and I can’t wait to see it all again, neither can the boys.
The toilets were in great condition. We never ate at any of the food places but there was plenty to choose from and we did buy some drinks. It all looked really good though and popular. The gift shops were laid out well and all of the staff we encountered were friendly and nice. It was a great place to take my family for the day.
