We have to decided to embrace all of the elements of Autumn this year and make the most of life and its changing seasons. One of those parts of Autumn we have embraced is Halloween, one of my husband's favourite holidays. We have been doing various different crafts to get ready for this holiday. They haven't all been extravagant or costly, they were simple crafts and things to do and the main thing was the boys loved doing them and spending time together.
1. Paper Plates.
Paper plates are amazing. We have drawn pumpkins with felt tips and we have also just gotten the paints out and gotten messy with them. The best thing we did with the paper plates was to make tissue paper pumpkins.

This is a must for everyone at Halloween. I found this quite messy and sticky and wasn't really prepared for that, so make sure you have a couple of bowls ready; one for the pips and stringy part and another for the decent flesh. I used my flesh to then make some pumpkin and chocolate chip cupcakes. You can pick up some cheap carving sets from most places. I got mine for 50p from Home Bargains! My eldest loved carving a pumpkin this year. I want to be more and more creative each year.
4. Baking
There are so many yummy treats you can bake at Halloween. We used left over pumpkin flesh from carving to make some cupcakes. We also made some chocolate cupcakes and decorated them to make them look like spiders. I'm sure before the actual event this Saturday that we shall be baking some more. I'm thinking mummies!

Ingredients:
- Paper plates
- Tissue Paper; we used green and orange
- Glue
- Glue stick
- Black Pen
- Buttons; we used an assortment of green buttons
To Make:
We ripped up a load of tissue paper and put into a hand pile. Then we layered it up with spreading glue onto the paper plate and other bits of tissue paper all ready on the plate. Once dried we then either drew a face on top with the black pen or stuck the buttons to make a smiley face. It's just a simple fun pumpkin plate. Leave to dry. We had to be very careful not to let my youngest, who's only 18 months, get the buttons as they are a choking hazard! He had to make do with paint.
Over the next couple of days, seeing as there are quite a few paper plates left, we will be making some bats and ghosts by cutting into the plate to make the shapes needed and using stickers and pens to decorate. We will also make a couple of spider plates using straws for the legs, these we can then stick on to the webs we made. You can read how to make simple bin bag spider webs below.

2. Bin Bag Spider Webs
Ingredients:
- Bin bag
- Scissors
- Sellotape
How to Make:
- Lay out your bin bag, scissors and sellotape onto a table. Unfold the bin bag so that it is laying flat. Cut off the very top and bottom of the bin bag so that it leaves a big square.
- Cut the bin bag square into smaller squares. I cut it into quarters.
- Fold a set of squares in half to make a triangle. Then fold it in half again to make a shape similar to that shown in image number 3. Use the sellotape to tape down the open edge.
- Cut into the web as shown in image 4. You can get really creative at this point.
- Unfold the webs, if the sellotape is on the parts that are still intact, unpeel it or slice it open.
- Hang your webs up and enjoy.
